To be honest I'm NOT a fan of mobile technology. Perhaps it's an age thing but I think it's healthier to "disconnect" from technologies, so I prefer to limit my time online when I'm out of the office or out of the home. Well, sort of. That said, there's a fair amount of time that we all spend in lineups, waiting for someone or something that's "lost" time for most people, and waiting is pretty dull and boring. Mobile technology certainly takes away some of the boredom of waiting, and does allow maximizing your time, if that's a concern for you. And, you can LEARN on your mobile device, read a book, catch a video. I get it.
So, I commissioned the garden gnomes in the basement to bring us into the mobile world, and the result is two FREE APPS running on the Android operating system, which is likely what powers your smartphone or tablet if they don't have the name "APPLE" on the front.
This app was designed to those with an interest in customer service issues, particularly those that work in customer service, but we're adding features that will appeal to just plain old people. And it's looking good. And it's free. So, what's inside?
- Access chapters from If It Wasn't For The Customers I'd Really Like This Job on your mobile/smart devices, and without an online connection.
- Access over 1,000 hand picked articles from our Customer Service Library - dynamically updated as we add new material.
- Take advantage of free offers and discounts as they come available. Includes discounts on our LearnBytes Products and free whitepapers and e-books
- Access the newest articles on customer service published around the Web
- Read our ezine archive going back years, on your mobile device.
- ...and more.
If you are NOT employed in customer service (well, everyone has customers, ya know), we have some upcoming new features of interest. The most fun is the Wacky Customers Section, where you'll be able to read stories and anecdotes about the weird, usually hysterically funny things customers do and say...for real. I love this stuff and it's coming in the next version. Take a break. Laugh. Also coming soon is access to a section JUST FOR CUSTOMERS to help them/us get through to the companies and people that aren't very helpful to their customers. So, something for everyone.
Version 1.0 is available via the Google Market (Google Play), and it should be available elsewhere, if you don't have Google Play access on your device. However, Google Play is the best option since that's where NEW versions will be posted, and you'll receive automatic updates.
This free app is about relationships -- how to make them better, how to communicate more effectively. As our first attempt at an app, it lacks features, but not to worry...we'll be updating it, but get it now so you'll auto-update. It contains free chapters from our book, Imperfect Phrases For Relationships. Since we don't want to overwhelm you here, we suggest you check it out on the Google Play site, and download it to see if you like it. We promise we'll be doing some cool things with this app in the future, including adding audiobook segments, and...well, you'll have to grab it to find out.
If I'm not a mobile computing guy, I'm certainly an audiobook junky, so it makes sense for us to look at making our books available in audio format. We're working on it, and we'll be using computer generated speech to keep costs down, so we can provide audio version at rock bottom prices. I know. I know. It's not a great solution for the ear, but our books are about learning and content, so we're going with it. Want to test it out and see how far computer generated speech has come?
We've make the first chapter from Imperfect Phrases For Relationships into an audiofile that you can access at: http://work911.com/wp/?cat=859 . Listen to a stodgy old British fellow reading -- it's a 15 minute listen, and if you do, please leave us a comment.
Ah. Conflict! (Hey, that's an OK app name). We all have it. We'd all like less of it. The Conflict Management and Resolution site is our contribution to helping people prevent, manage and resolve conflict at home and at work. You can access hundreds of hand picked articles on all aspects of disagreement, argument, conflict communication and a lot more. It's truly one of the most extensive free collection of resources on the topic, and we don't hardly have anything to sell you, so you can get on with enjoying the content.
Speaking of conflict, you might also be interested in our short LearnBytes Helpcard entitled "Using Your Head To Manage Conflict", which provides you with a way to CHOOSE how to handle each conflict as it arises. Many of us react to conflict by using the same approach to most conflicts, and that doesn't make sense. Learn when to fight, when to walk away, when to compromise.
And, while you're at it, check out Learn To Fight Fair LearnBytes Helpcard.
A cornucopia of new free ebooks, chapters and whitepapers have been released by one of our partners -- a lot of great stuff on small business, using social media, and...well, there are literally hundreds of publications available. Rather than choose a few to review for you, it's best if you browse for yourself, what's available, since there are so many useful things. The site is at: http://work911.tradepub.com/ and it's all free, although you will be asked to register if you want to receive these free publications.
Well, that's it for now. Have a good weekend, and we'll be back soon.
